Santorini

“It takes a lifetime to discover Greece, but it only takes an instant to fall in love with her.” —Henry Miller

You’ve seen the pictures…that Greek island with the white washed homes and blue roofed churches, all dangling off the cliffs high above an azure Aegean Sea. We’ve had Santorini on our bucket list for a long time. They’ll be no rushing around touring for the next few days. We intend to just soak in the sun and the sights and take a vacation from our vacation, well, most of the time.

We are staying in Oia (pronounced ee a) As always when we stay in one spot for a few days, we seek out the bakery. Up early, we follow our noses to find that unmistakable scent of baking bread. We are led to To Poupvi Bakery, just down by the bus station. They have arguably the best baklava in the entire Greek world. Each morning we set our breakfast table with fresh fruit, Baklava, Greek yogurt, orange juice and a little Ouzo. Great way to start the day.

Here on Santorini, we explored a bit, but mostly just relaxed, soaked up the atmosphere and wandered about. And as we wandered one cannot help but snap a few postcard worthy photographs for this island is so stinking beautiful.

  1. This is my mom’s most favorite place. She mentioned that to me when I shared your first post. I can see why. My favorite color is blue, and the combo of blue and white bring peace to me. I think I could live there. Enjoy the time being at peace.

    • Hi Angie,
You would ABSOLUTELY love Santorini. If they had a Starbucks here I would hope the mugs would be light blue and white on the outside and a dark blue on the inside….just like the island and sea. It is so peaceful here (until the cruise ships sail in, and then there is hordes of people for a few hours…ugh!!!)
And you would love the food…so fresh and so good.
I am glad we are able to give you reading pleasure and hopefully some places to put on your own bucket list.
Our last full day here in paradise….tomorrow evening we sail to Crete.

  2. Okay, this one definitely goes on the list of places I need to visit. My list is getting longer and longer thanks to the two of you.

    • Greg, you and Nanci would LOVE this place. So beautiful it is with great food…a place to just soak up the beauty and sun and relax and take a ton of pictures. And Nanci would love the shopping. Heidi has purchased several outfits already.
      Definitely put on your list.
